Thauvin: I had the opportunity to join Milan in 2020 but failed to do so. It was a mistake to play in Mexico

November 8th After a tortuous career, French winger Thauvin returned to Ligue 1 to join Lens. In an interview with SoFoot magazine, Towan reflected on some of his career decisions.

Thauvin recalled: "Since September 2020, I have been in contact with Milan, including discussions with Maldini and Massara. I was supposed to sign at the time, but for some reason it did not happen. By February and March of the following year, things still made no progress. Later, I received invitations from Atletico Madrid, Naples and Lyon, but I declined them because I felt that I would be sorry for Marseille, and then the opportunity to play in Mexico arose. At the same time, , Pablo Longoria also made me a good offer to stay with the team, and we had reached a consensus, but after three weeks or a month, I still didn't receive a formal contract."

"One day, I met Longoria by chance in the parking lot, and he asked me if everything had been negotiated about the contract extension, and I said yes, but the negotiations between me and the Tigers were very advanced, and I knew I was about to leave. I called my mother immediately on the way home. Said: ‘Mom, I did something wrong, I shouldn’t have agreed.’ At that moment, I felt very uncomfortable and ashamed of myself. This was a big mistake I made.”

”I don’t know if it was because of the sudden situation. Caught off guard, out of shyness or just panicked? Deep down I wanted to tell the truth, but the words didn't come out. You know, sometimes when you're young, it's hard to say no. Everyone has a situation where they dare not say no to their boss. I felt deeply guilty because Longoria did not deserve to be treated like this. When I saw him again later, I apologized to him. "I think it was through these setbacks that I found my inner balance. This is my story."
