Son Heung-min leaving the team will cost Tottenham tens of millions of pounds in revenue every year
After the departure of star star Son Heung-min, Tottenham Hotspur suffered a huge loss in revenue. In recent seasons, Son Heung-min’s jerseys have always been the best-selling items. During Tottenham's home games, it is expected that nearly 1,000 jerseys with the names and numbers of Korean stars will be sold, which is the highest sales volume among club player jerseys. After Son Heung-min left, in addition to the decline in jersey sales, Tottenham also lost a large number of Asian fans, especially fans from South Korea. This resulted in the club losing many sponsorship contracts with Korean companies and the opportunity to host tour events. According to reports from Football Insider, losing an influential star like Son Heung-min will cost Tottenham 40 million to 60 million pounds in revenue per season. Los Angeles FC general manager John Torrington revealed that the global influence brought by the introduction of Son Heung-min is five times that of when Bell joined in 2022. The number of followers and content views of the Los Angeles FC social media account increased by 594%, with more than 33 billion views. In return for the huge benefits brought by Son Heung-min, Los Angeles FC also gave him a generous salary. According to salary data released by Major League Soccer, his annual salary is as high as US$11.15 million, second only to Miami International star Messi (annual salary: US$20.45 million). The salaries of these two superstars are higher than the salaries of 21 of the 30 MLS teams this season.
