May 9th, 33-year-old German defender Halstenberg announced his retirement after the end of this season, and his old club Leipzig social media sent his blessings. Leipzig official social media posted photos of Halstenberg winning the cup and wrote: "Marcel Halstenberg announced his retirement at the end of the season. We are proud to have gone through this journey with you. You can be proud of your career. I wish you all the best in the future, Halsten!" Halstenberg played as a central defender and left-back in his career, and played for clubs such as St. Pauli, Leipzig and Hannover. During his 2015-2023 season, he played in Leipzig, scored 16 goals and assisted 27 times, helping the team win 2 German Cup championships. At the national team level, Halstenberg played 9 times for the German team, 1 goal and 1 assist, and participated in the 2020 European Cup.
