29 games in a single season! British media: Newcastle wants to buy Burnley goalkeeper Trafford
June 5 The Times reported that Newcastle intends to introduce Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford. Trafford, 22, is Newcastle's number one target and the club hopes to bring him in to compete with Pope. Pope had previously received attention from the newly promoted Leeds United, but the Times learned that Eddie Howe was eager to keep him at St. James Park. The 33-year-old England international returned to his best form as Newcastle won the League Cup and advanced to the Champions League. Newcastle internally wants Pope to stay, but at the same time wants a top young goalkeeper to challenge him. Trafford was selected for Tuchel's latest England roster, replacing Pope's position. He was already close to joining Newcastle last summer, but was eventually forced to sell midfielder Elliott Anderson to Nottingham Forest and sign Greek goalkeeper Flajodi Mos as part of the deal due to deductions due to fears of a breach of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Then, Trafford spent an excellent season at Burnley, helping the team to advance to the Premier League as the second place in the Championship. He completed an astonishing 29 clean sheets, tied the English football goalkeeper's clean sheet record in a single season and conceded only 16 goals in the league. Newcartes is expected to adopt a cautious strategy in the summer transfer window, and they are one of three clubs chasing the England U21 national goal. They hope that the £25 million to £30 million will sign the English football star. The outside world is generally optimistic that Trafford will challenge Pickford's England position in the future. Trafford, who was born in Manchester City's youth training, joined Burnley for an initial transfer fee of 15 million pounds in 2023 and signed for four years. Newcastle plans to lower the average roster age this summer and bring in well-known stars in the process, with targeting four players including a right back and a right winger.
