Uric: Rome & Saints experience has made me stronger, coaching Atlanta is a major opportunity

June 10 Atlanta appointed Uric as head coach. He talked about his feelings and his experience last season in an interview.

What I feel now

"This is football, you may have five brilliant seasons, but it only takes a bad season and you have to start from scratch. For me, it's an extra opportunity because I didn't do well in the 24-25 season, but now I have a good chance. It's not common, and the coaching career isn't like this."

From September to December 2024, you coached Rome for 12 games. From December to April this year, you led Southampton to 16 games.

"Last season was negative from the perspective of sports competition, but it was excellent from the experience I learned, and I felt stronger than I had been a year ago. I worked with great players in Rome and experienced the Premier League in Southampton, which were very helpful for my coaching career.

"Both of the time I took over the team when the season had already begun, and it was very different from the previous coaching method. It’s crucial for me to work from the preseason. Southampton has a lot more work in terms of using statistics and set pieces than I used to before, so I wanted to do more on this. ”

Gasperini achieved a very good result in Atlanta, will this bring pressure?

"Of course not, it would be better to take over a club that is used to a certain way of working. We talked about this topic this morning, and the club president told me not to be too influenced by my ex's job. Gasperini not only influenced me, but also influenced many people inside and outside Serie A. We'll see something different this season. The team looks complete and I don't think there is much need to intervene.

"We may need something different in the offense, Gasperini, Guardiola and Sarri, they all have their own styles and are widely followed, but you have to find your own path."

You will lead the team in the Champions League for the first time

"I am not afraid, on the contrary, I am looking forward to it, which is also a huge challenge for me."

Considering the success Gasperini has achieved in Atlanta, what are your goals now?

"It's hard to say, but we want to keep moving forward. Is there anything that Atlanta has to do? Get a victory."
