Nico Williams: The support from the fans makes me proud; I want to continue making history here

Hupu, August 18th, Athletic Bilbao defeated Sevilla 3-2 in the first round of La Liga. Nico Williams participated in all three goals of the team, becoming the biggest contributor to the team's victory.

Athletic Bilbao's first goal against Sevilla came from a penalty kick taken by Nico Williams, but there is a small story behind it. Iniyaki Williams was hovering near the penalty spot with the ball in his hand and handed the ball to his younger brother. "Actually, I took the penalty kick, but Iniyaki wanted to act in a play (laughs). No, it was my brother who gave me the penalty kick," Nico said in front of the camera. He thought the opponent's foul was very obvious: "I feel like he stepped on my heel."

The No. 10 player of Athletic Bilbao kissed the team badge affectionately after scoring the goal. When the score was set at 3-2, he was greeted by all the fans of the San Mames Stadium in unison by shouting "Nico, Nico" as he left the court. "I don't even know how to describe that feeling. I'm here for this moment. The support from the fans makes me feel extremely proud. They have been supporting me since the first minute of my joining. I want to continue to stay here, give back to them with my love and try to repay it all on the court," he said emotionally.

Nico Williams expressed more thanks to the fans. "To me it's like a big family, I'm so happy here, I want to continue to make history here. I'm so happy and hope there will be more nights like today in the future."
