Marseille Chairman: We will increase our ownership of Greenwood to around 60% due to the Champions League

May 20th, Ligue 1 Marseille Club Chairman Pablo Longoria talked about Greenwood's topic in an interview.

Note: Greenwood transferred from Manchester United to Marseille in July 2024. At that time, Marseille spent 30 million euros to buy 50% of Greenwood's ownership (the other 50% is still owned by Manchester United). According to the agreement, if Marseille qualifies for the Champions League this season, they will also need to purchase about 10% of Greenwood's ownership from Manchester United (Marseille will then have about 60% of Greenwood's ownership). Greenwood's contract with Marseille expires in the summer of 2029. He made 36 appearances for Marseille this season, contributing 22 goals and 5 assists, helping Marseille win the second place in Ligue 1 and thus qualify for the Champions League next season.

Pablo Longoria said in an interview that Marseille will meet with Manchester United's representatives to further invest in Greenwood. Pablo Longoria said: "Greenwood is a key player of our team and we regard it as a hope to retain him for a long time. Like every player, we need to have a separate discussion with him. Greenwood is very happy in Marseille and we are very satisfied with his performance this season."

"We spent 30 last year. Euro 100 million bought 50% of Greenwood's ownership, the only way we could make a offer to Manchester United and could outperform other clubs, and we adopted this model at the time also benefited from Greenwood's willingness to join Marseille. Qualifying for the Champions League this season made us obliged to buy more ownership of Greenwood, about 10%, which was part of the initial agreement, and Marseille's doing so demonstrates our desire to invest in Greenwood for a long time."
