DO Exclusive: Chelsea midfielder Ugo Shuku transfers to Burnley, both sides sign a contract for 4+1 year
Hupu August 4th, TheAthleticUK ace reporter David Ornstein exclusive report, Burnley reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Leslie Ugoshuku, preparing to strengthen the midfield lineup before returning to the Premier League. The 21-year-old French youth international has been allowed to go to Burnley for a medical examination and complete a permanent transfer. If all goes well, Ugoshuku will sign a four-year contract, which will greatly increase head coach Scott Parker's choices in the sixth and eighth positions. Middlefielder Josh Brown Hill, who made 44 appearances last season, scored 18 goals, left the club as a free agent last month. Burnley has signed 10 first-team players this summer, including defenders Kyle Walker and Axel Toonzebe, as well as wingers Jacob Bren Larson, Lum Chauna and Bashir Humphreys. 21-year-old Ugoshuku joined Southampton on loan in August 2024, after signing a seven-year contract with Chelsea the year before. He made 31 appearances for the South Coast club, contributing three goals and one assist in all games, but Southampton became the first team in league history to drop with seven games left in the league.
