Scottish Premiership Celtic coach selection: Robbie Keane and McKenna are considered, but Australia and Poland are currently the first choice
Hupu, October 29th: The Daily Telegraph, Scottish Sun, BBC Scotland and many other media revealed that Robbie Keane, Kieran McKenna and Angie Postkoglu are all on the candidate list to succeed Brendan Rodgers as the next Celtic head coach. The Scottish champions have temporarily appointed Martin O'Neill as head coach following the sudden and controversial departure of Rodgers and are currently considering other options. O'Neill will be assisted by his former midfielder Sean Maloney, who has made it clear that he only wants to manage the club for a short period of time. O'Neal achieved extraordinary success when he first coached the Celtics from 2000 to 2005. He said that the Celtics are now looking for a "young coach with outstanding ability and outstanding performance" to take over. Keane, who played for Celtic on loan and had great success coaching Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel, is now coaching Hungarian club Ferencvaros. He is a young coach with great potential and he will be an exciting fit. The former Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United striker has won league titles in two countries and worked with his assistant coach Rory Delap, who was his former Ireland team-mate. Importantly, it is reported that if the Celtics are interested in negotiating with him, the 45-year-old coach has also expressed interest. Another former Celtic head coach Postkoglu will be a popular choice among the fans. Some sources say the Australian coach will not resign easily just 39 days after being sacked by Nottingham Forest and may not want to return to Scottish football where he has won back-to-back titles. However, despite claiming that they want a younger coach if an agreement can be reached, sources claim that the 60-year-old coach is actually Celtic's first choice. Celtic appreciate McKenna, but it is reported that the amount of termination fee requested by Ipswich may be too high. The Northern Ireland coach's contract expires in 2028, and although the release clause has dropped significantly since Ipswich's relegation from the Premier League, it is still expected to be more than £5 million.
