Nets internal executives believe Michael Porter Jr. may challenge to become the NBA scoring champion

In a recent passage shared with the media, a team executive suggested the new Porter Jr. This season could hit the NBA scoring champion. While he did not announce MPJ as a downright hotline, the belief in his offensive cap is loud and clear. “Of course, we’re transitioning our roster,” a Nets executive told Hoops Wire. "We're going to get a lot of young players on the court. But we need some vets to balance that. Of course, we need to get some points. Porter will be there to help us a lot. I'm not saying he'll win the scoring title, but I think it'll probably be close." The Nets are surprisingly optimistic about a team that's still a few years away from losing three superstars. While they are still actively rebuilding with no real team superstars, they have an interesting mid-level role player and up-and-coming young rookies ready to contribute. In the 2025-26 season, under Michael Porter Jr., they had the opportunity to take another step towards relevance in the Eastern Conference. Porter Jr., from the Nuggets, has developed the habit of scoring in multiple ways, averaging 16.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.4 assists in his career and shooting 50.0% from the field.

His contract has two years left and $79 million, and Michael may think he will stay with the Nuggets for the foreseeable future, but now he has a new opportunity to lead in Brooklyn – potentially becoming the team’s best scoring option. As a former Lotto rookie with undeniable offensive skills, there are many reasons to believe Porter Jr. will recover. First of all, at the age of 27, he has just reached the peak of his career after studying and growing up for many years under the leadership of Jokic (the best player in the NBA).

In a team without expectations, Porter Jr. also experienced unprecedented freedom. He will play for a Nets who can be fully competed for and have enough room to try to become the leader on the court.
