The performance during the Summer United period was a mess, but the Magic still provided a two-way contract for the Heat Pelicans old players
According to Orlando Sentinel reporter Jason Beede, the Orlando Magic has signed with Jamal Cain, a forward player who was previously in free agency. Kain got a two-way contract from the Magic. Magic then confirmed the signing in an official statement. Kain was born in March 1999 and is 26 years old, 201cm tall and weighs 87kg. He is the undraft in the 2022 NBA Draft. After the draft, Kain got the training camp contract sent by the Miami Heat, and he also got the two-way contract sent by the Heat through his outstanding performance in training camp and preseason. The Heat also completed a two-way contract renewal with Kain in the summer of 2023. Kain signed with the New Orleans Pelicans last season on a two-way contract, but he did not receive a contract extension this summer, and he immediately became a free agent. Kain has played 81 times in the NBA regular season, averaging 12.4 minutes per game, averaging 4.8 points, 2.1 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.5 steals and 0.2 blocks, and 0.4 turnovers and 1.1 fouls. He shot 45.9%, three-point shooting percentage 33.6%, and free throw shooting percentage 72.6%. In the NBA regular season last season, Kain played 37 times in total for the Pelicans, averaging 13.6 minutes per game, averaging 5.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, 0.6 assists, 0.6 steals and 0.2 blocks, and 0.6 turnovers and 1.2 fouls. He shot 43%, three-point shooting percentage 32.5%, and free throw shooting percentage 68%. Kain's performance last season was actually not ideal. His number of appearances and average playing time reached career highs, but his performance did not make substantial improvements, and he did not have many highlights on the court. Therefore, it is reasonable for the Pelicans not to renew his contract this summer. Previously, Kain represented the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA Summer League. He played 5 games in the summer league, averaging 20.1 minutes per game, averaging 5.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 0.4 assists, 1 block, and 0.6 turnovers and 1.6 fouls. He shot 35.5%, three-point shooting percentage 26.7%, and free throw shooting percentage 75%. Kain's performance during the summer league was a very disappointing one. His performance in the 2022 and 2023 NBA Summer Leagues was actually quite highlighted. However, he has been struggling in the NBA and NBA Development League for many years and has not shown enough competitiveness in this year's summer league. Unexpectedly, Magic actually signed with him under such circumstances, which was a bit beyond everyone's expectations. The Magic currently has only one player with a two-way contract, Orlando Robinson. Can Kain stabilize this two-way contract in this situation?
