The Golden State Warriors are trapped in a contract farce with Jonathan Cumingga and remain the only team in the NBA to have yet to sign or re-sign players this offseason. They currently have nine contract players on their roster.

Stephen Curry said the only goal for the rest of his career was to win his fifth championship. The Warriors need to take action to get him to do that, and he is pushing for a special signing player.

NBA insider Brandon Robinson said Curry is pushing the Warriors to re-sign the 32-year-old. I was told Curry has been in direct contact with Gary Payton II to push the Warriors to bring the defensive ace back on a two-year contract."

Peton II's defensive intensity reflects the defensive intensity of his father, Hall of Famer Gary Payton. The former DL player’s courage on that end of the field is crucial to making up for Curry’s defensive flaws.

He averaged 6.5 points last season, his best offensive output since the Warriors' championship season, when he averaged 7 points and 1.6 steals in the Finals.

Unfortunately for Payton, he is part of an increasing backlog of players who want to sign with the Warriors, but they are waiting for the ongoing legend with Kuminga to be resolved.

Kumingga is willing to sign a $7.9 million qualifying offer for one year before becoming a free agent next summer. However, he can wait until October to sign, and he has no reason to worry.

This prevented the Warriors from officially signing offseason acquisitions. Al Horford is one of several free agents waiting for his contract for weeks. NBA insider Anthony Slater said Horford is currently understanding the situation, but in September things may become “uncomfortable.”
