Clippers forward: It makes no difference to me whether I am a starter or a substitute, I will always remain aggressive enough
Los Angeles Clippers forward star Derrick Jones Jr. was interviewed by reporters after training. He also talked about whether he should enter the team's starting lineup in the new NBA regular season during the interview. Jones Jr. said: No matter what the team needs me to do, I will try my best to do it. This has always been my creed. That's the type of player I am and I will always be that type of player, whether I start and play 36 minutes, 48 minutes, 20 minutes, 15 minutes, it doesn't matter to me. I just want to make an impact on the court and help the team win. Whether I am a starter or a substitute, my role on the court will not change much. My job is always to guard the opponent's strongest offensive player on the outside while maintaining my aggressiveness on the offensive end. Jones Jr. continued: So what I have to do is to give the opponent a high enough defensive intensity on the defensive end, and not be afraid of taking shots on the offensive end. My teammates always encourage me to take decisive shots when I encounter those open shooting opportunities, without any hesitation, and to be confident in my abilities. Since they all believed I could do it, why didn't I shoot? In the NBA regular season last season, Jones Jr. played a total of 77 times in 82 games, averaging 24.3 minutes per game. He averaged 10.1 points, 3.4 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 1 steal, and 0.4 blocks per game. He also had 0.9 turnovers and 2 fouls. He shot 52.6% from the field, 35.6% from the three-point range, and 70.3% from the free throw line. In the playoffs, Jones Jr. played a total of 7 times, averaging 18.4 minutes per game. He averaged 7.3 points, 1.9 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.6 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game. He also had 0.4 turnovers and 0.4 fouls. He shot 43.8% from the field, 30% from the three-point range, and 37.5% from the free throw line. In the previous preseason, Jones Jr. played a total of 4 times, averaging 14.5 minutes per game. He averaged 8.5 points, 1.2 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. He also had 0.5 turnovers and 0.5 fouls. He shot 60.9% from the field, 33.3% from the three-point range, and 50% from the free throw line. Jones Jr. performed very well on both offense and defense during the preseason. He had a very stable offensive efficiency on the offensive end, and he also showed his scoring ability in limited playing time. Jones Jr.'s performance on the defensive end is also very outstanding, and he is also able to display his super defensive ability. Jones Jr. performed very well during the preseason, which also gives us more expectations for his performance in the new season. Then the question becomes, will he become the team's starter?
